Find out about all local food from Leeza Balmin of the Local Food Systems Network and Karen Craig from the City of Reno.
Citizens can guess how much compost, recycling, and trash the Earth Day event produces? The closest guess will win a home composter!! Enter to win at the waste stations where volunteers will explain what is trash and what is compost, such as forks made out of potatoes!! All the compost is composted by Full Circle Composted and donated back to Idlewild Park’s Rose Garden to flourish all year long.
In order to offset the carbon footprint of the Earth Day celebration, participants can contribute to the Green Power when buying raffle tickets. Nevada EcoNet is partnering with Desert Research Institute’s Nevada GreenPower Program and Solar Generations of Sierra Pacific Power Company to offer attendees and vendors an option to help offset the carbon footprint of the 2008 Earth Day Celebration. Contributions will be accumulated by Nevada EcoNet and contributed to Nevada GreenPower Program for solar panels and small wind turbines to be installed on local schools. On all Sierra Pacific Power Co. bills local citizens and businesses have the option to pay extra to contribute to this program.
To find out more information or how to volunteer call Nevada EcoNet at 323-3433.
