Moses, thanks for the tips. A friend, Niel Ginnes (spelling uncertain) played at the Musem the other weekend, during the Democratic State Convention. My wife and I just happened to locate them in our walk around the river when we were looking for a place to eat breakfast. Niel, Trey Stone and Rodney are the three resident jass musicians in Tahoe that are great assets to the area. My wife and I are moving to Reno, I have moved my office here already.
Politically I can truly relate. Tahoe is a very conservative community, and it appears that although Reno is a bit more liberal, it is mostly in the University, Medical and related communities. It appears to be relatively conservative as a whole. Most major cities, Los Vegas, San Francisco, etc are the only typical places where you find any meaningful liberal communities.
A person from Portland noted that when Barack was there and 75,000 people showed up that the people from outside the core city, liberal communities, are very conservative and were not happy with the apparent liberal perspective Barack's showing had for the state.
I know what you are referring to about not being charged about my political views. When reading Obama's book, The Audacity of Hope, the first thing that "jumped out at me" was his comments that he moved to a very liberal area of Chicago, and things started to just work out well.
When your political views do not fit well with the community, I find that things just don't appear to work out well. More than just a coincidence, in my view.
I will look forward to sharing a glass of wine while listing to good jazz in the future.
Moses, I just joined this group. My brother is a jazz musician in Chicago, and has played with a number of top jazz groups. Where are the hot jazz spots in Reno? Are you playing anywhere in the future? Look forward to hearing you. I have been a strong supporter of political activism for many years, so I like what I see in your music.
