Reno Doughnut (Donut) Shops

Reno Baby! member Rob Woods, along with several media outlets, informs that Krispy Kreme is now closed. Those were some good doughnuts.

Now that we've lost that one place where we lined up around the block for days to get at, where do we go for good doughnuts? Personally, I love the place near my house, Jelly Donut. Where do you go?

Honestly, anyone who thinks kk fries good doughnuts loses points in my book. Jelly Donut is the shit.

I'm not sure they would choose to use this line in their marketing campaign....

Now that's a good question ... used to be some incredible bakeries here ...

Try to avoid the doughnuts myself, but for baked goodness - Josef's on Moana is the best in my book.

I like how when you go to Jelly Donut at 4 in the morning, it's the same guy that works at 4 in the afternoon. It doesn't matter how good the donuts are, that is dedication...

Never had Jelly donuts before. With KK out of the picture, maybe more specialized bakeries can take over. Josef's is always a good choice, as is House of Bread.

Jelly D is the first place I ate breakfast when I moved to Reno 10 years ago.

As far as I'm concerned all others are crap.

Josef's doesn't sell donuts. Those are pastries. Different beast. Josef's shouldn't be a part of this discussion.

I agree with Rob, Josef's can't be beat in the pastry arena.

why would you eat a donut when there's perfectly good beef jerky at 7-11?

I carry a two pack of slim-jims and some warm miller lites at all times in case I need my mysterymeat fix. Donuts are irreplaceable.

I was wondering why there hasn't been any other shop mentioned besides JD in this thread - it's because there's only one other shop in Reno-TheOtherTown: Sticky Fingers, 1605 Sullivan Ln

Good topic, Jerz.

Also, pastries and donuts are not even on the same planet. Focus people.

Beef jerky on the other hand...

What about the Worlds Best Donut Shop behind Der Wienerschnitzel on Mill?
General Random Thought: Donut Shops work best as a local gastrononmical phenomenon. We all have that favorite donut shotp that was part and parcel to our neighborhoods. ( And not traded on the NYSE) Trying to make it a big box corporate affair clashes with my cultural conversation on donuts..which usually begins with "hey, I know this little place that makes the best (type) donut....in my youth it was Rolling Pin Donuts the powder sugar twists
The problem with beef jerkey, you have to dunk it a long time in your coffee to get it the right consistency...

yes, besides the jelly donut on south virginia, "the world's best donut shop," next to der wienerschnitzel, is awesome. but the jelly donut is (as has been said already) the shit. anyone else seen "dude, where's my car?" -- the lady in that movie IS the jelly donut lady! i swear, i once bought 4 or 5 donuts because the stern asian lady behind the counter kept saying "...AND THEN!?" after every choice i made. "NO, you CANNOT only order ONE donut! what sort of donut eater ARE you, anyway??"
