Summer in Reno means...

Last night at about 6pm the family and I were just starting to sit down to an early dinner when we got mobbed by friends and neighbors out for evening rides. Needless to say, by the time we shooed everyone away it was 7:30 and dinner was cold. There's a lot of great things about living in Reno. But with the skis put away and the every-present bike grease under my fingernails reminding me that it's only going to get hotter...I wonder what Summer in Reno means for you!? Let's see that photo that tells the story:

I'll start:

Summer in Reno means...kids, bikes and rodeos.

my pictures turned out like fun house mirrors! Oh well, Tahoe, Truckee River, Local Events. That's summer in Reno to me!

Summer in Reno is...

The smell of the nighttime breeze off of the marshes and sloughs in South Reno
Taking sunset walks around Rancho San Rafael and watching the bunnies
The shade of the rose gardens at UNR
Freezing your ass of in Tahoe and then frying your ass off on the beach
Getting bits of bark stuck in your swimsuit at Donner Lake
Dipping your feet in the Truckee at the Riverwalk until you're way too hot, then going and watching a movie for the air conditioning
Seeing lots of old cars and motorcycles and realizing that Hot August Nights and Street Vibrations have arrived
Noticing a lot of really dirty cars and dirty people and realizing that Burning Man must have just ended
A recreational Sunday bike ride, followed by ice cream and then a nap
A trip to Virginia City to eat fudge and look at rocks
Watermelon on the grass at a park while kids hunt pollywogs and water bugs

I love summer :)

Pirate attacks ... eating on the deck at Silver Peak ... teaching the cousins to make faces for the camera at family birthday dinners. Well, in a word, family.

Evenings at home with the windows wide open and the cool breeze blowing through the house after a hot day.

And here in Reno we can sit outside all evening without being bothered by bugs! I don't take that for granted after visiting points far East.

We all forgot ... coughing, wheezing, & red eyes from the California fires.
