Last week, for the first time ever, the cost of a tank of gas for my car hit the $30 range. That's ridiculous, considering that I vividly remember the days that I could fill my incredibly efficient Geo Metro up for $11. What's more ridiculous are you people with SUVs who wonder what I'm bitching about, since a $30 tank of gas would be a real deal for you guys! What are we thinking? If you fill up your SUV every week, you're spending upwards of $240 a month in gas. If cable cost that much, I woul… Continue
After many months of due dilligence, Hale Lane has decided to combine services and resources with a large regional law firm, Holland & Hart. We're all very excited about this "natural partnership." If you are a client, rest assured the only real change you'll see is the name as we will be adopting Holland & Hart. Everything else will remain the same.
The combined firm will have 415 attorneys (63 in Nevada) in 15 offices in seven western states and Washington D.C. The states include: Nev… Continue

I've spent SO many hours over the last 10 years walking around back alleys and shady streets in Reno, and let me tell you, we've got a gold mine of photographic greatness in the biggest little city. Any given alley around here has an amazing range of color, composition, texture, and uniqueness. I've come to love the rougher areas of reno very much for its very diverse and rapidly changing landscapes. As a long time Reno resident, I've gotten bored living here at time. That, among a few other rea… Continue
So it seems that these dayz most of us are single parents-- and for the most part we work Full Time-- we manage to work, get dinner made, check over homework, give pre- spelling to our children so they are prepared, sign notes, and reading logs, make sure we're doing our job by prying in their lives, and making sure they are involved in some out door activity. And by the end of the night -- we manage to jump on the Net, do a little surfing, shopping, and joining social net groups to maybe mee…Continue

In May 2000, accurate GPS units became available to the public, and within days a new sport, geocaching, was born when someone put something inside a container (now called a “cache”), hid it in the Oregon back country, posted the GPS coordinates on the Internet and told the world to “go find it!”

Today, I received a $1 bill with the 'WheresGeorge.com' stamped on it! I inputed the information and here is what it said:

RGJ ARTICLE excerpt: Alcohol and rafting would no longer go together at certain times on a popular stretch of the Truckee River just north of Lake Tahoe under legislation being considered by state lawmakers. A proposal under consideration in California would give Placer County officials the authority to prohibit alcohol consumption during summer holiday periods between the Truckee's headwaters at Tahoe City and the Alpine Meadows Bridge. Supporters said intox… Continue

I'm into reading books. Partly because I like to look smart and partly because I like what I read. If you're into books I want to encourage you to check out the group I've set up on my favorite book site, Shelfari. You'll have to join (it's free) and also join the group, but it could be good to suggest books and talk about them if anyone is interested.
Okay, it's not specific to Reno but you may have seen the stories today regarding the Gerlach schools getting 90kw of solar installed by the good people at Burning Man. I have had the pleasure of representing Black Rock City, LLC for years and I am constantly amazed at the length they are willing to go to support northern Nevada. If you've been to Burning Man you know the only stuff you can buy is Coffee and Ice. All of the proceeds from those sales go to Gerlach schools and non-profits. This…

One way to make Reno Baby! a place to visit with some frequency is to have a good calendar controlled by the people who use, updated with items that we want to share. You'll notice that the interface is Google Calendar — Jerz set it up and put it on the page in the middle. If you know a of good band playing, a mustache party being hosted, a a sporting event — nothing as obvious as Hot August Nights — e-mail to renobabyevents@gmail.com. We'll put it in. Remember: Name, date/time, place,… Continue
