Shooters -- probably been through a few different owners over the years, with a few different incarnations, but you can't beat it. Shooters highlights: Getting kicked out after friend was accused of stealing (false allegation), and seeing a girl do a pole dance to "Pour some sugar" for about 4 bucks of donations, hand the money to her pimp, and walk out the door. Good times.
Abby's Highway 40. I think that's what it's called... the sign always looks so blurry on the way home. Best place to go for endless, and I mean endless, conversations with Reno's homeless.
The Polo Lounge....outside it's 2008...inside it's 1970 something...the best place to people watch over a smelly cocktail. The overwhelming aroma of ciggies, the crazy people, and the smelly drinks really make it one of the best dive bars around. The poximity to home is also a big plus!
I have to put in a vote for Abby's Highway 40 as well. In addition to having an excellent location-it doesn't get better than 4th Street- it's owned by a guy that my mom went to high school with...talk about a photo coming back to haunt you...However, on this summer's "White Trash Pub Crawl" (details will follow as the date draws closer) I'm hoping to hit the Break-away, the Half-way Club, and the nasty karaoke bar across from the Montage as well.
Good lord. Pole dancers, Patrick not seeing well, Katie and Bourbon? Ashely's is the only place I've been.
My answer would have to be the Beer Barrel. Some of you newbies may not have heard of it, but it was hot. I still have a shirt with "Barrel Sludge" on it. I think it's a shoeprint that Brandon Wirth(less, of course) stuck on me during some concert--probably Convicted Innocence or some other Barrel staple. The Barrel was located where Jimmy John's right at the UNR campus is currently housed.
As for current places, I'm very sad to say that I just don't know of any. I like Scruples, and go to se7en here and there, but dive bars are out for me. The closest I've been lately is StephHanna's house.
I see that Jim has also picked Shooters. For the record, I did not steal anything. I purchased two 50 cent jello shots and gave her a $20. She never gave me my change. I accused her of stealing, then jokingly said that I was going to get my $20 back by taking all the tiddly-winks they had laying all over the bar. I was then kicked out.
Carz Bar (now closed and vacant; off of north Virginia before Bonanza) - I will miss Thursday night karaoke nights the most, consisting of twins who lived up the road bringing their karaoke machine down.
Carz was called the Grey Goat (and several other things) or something at one point. Maybe Dickie's? Crazy weird place. They used to have a popcorn machine and once I asked for some. I think it was at least three weeks old.
